Sampling is a common and essential way to make new music. However, it might infringe on the copyright of original songs. Some claim that copyrights protect musicians while others believe that copyrights deprive their chances to create new music. In this session, we will discuss this issue with an entertainment lawyer who works for musicians and fights against the rigid use of copyrights.

”Youth Culture and Entertainment Business Law (Fu-ei-hou)”

Starting this year in Japan, every student must study a form of dance at school. On the other hand, in these days, many ”dance” clubs have been closed for disclosure of illegal operations according to the ”風営法” law. In this session, we will discuss the way to protect youth culture with a lawyer who has expertise in this area and considers the importance of freedom of expression.

The invention of the Internet and the advance of technology have made all of us ”creators”. Everyone can create something new easily by sampling and remixing from original materials using the internet. It seems that copyright criminalized people who create new ones under the name of protecting the people who have originals. In this session, we will discuss how we could produce a society where we would enjoy our creativity.
